Sexy Amazons Army - the most Sexy Pin-Up style Amazons Army?!?

$

Hello all,
So while trawling Kickstarter and Indiegogo and wondering just how many BloodBowl teams can get funded at the same time (answer: lots!), I stumbled upon something that made me laugh. And giggle a lot!

Now, don't get me wrong, I like well proportioned female minis and find them a pleasure to paint, but this project on Indiegogo just seems like a joke.

So - without discussing the dangers of giving a ton of money to company which (as far as I can determine) has never really produced miniatures at a large scale nor presents a single example of the minis they wish to get funding for - their drawings seem to have transcended "sexy", even "sexy pin-up style", and entered the realm of the pornographic jokes.
Judge for yourself:

Indiegogo, Sexy, Amazon, army, poledancing, stripper, pin-up
Poledancing is a viable combat technique
And another, even better equipped, amazon:

Indiegogo, Sexy, Amazon, army, poledancing, stripper, pin-up
"Must dance for the enemy"
Now, I know women have often been given less than sensible armour to cater to the male players, but the strips of leather (latex?) on these makes me giggle.

Indiegogo, Sexy, Amazon, army, poledancing, stripper, pin-up
More concepts - the one in the middle is the "best" so far...

Anyways, I agree there needs to be something sexy about an Amazon army, but this is just silly and I can't imagine the level of sillyness an entire army of these poledancing warriors would present.
Anyone wishing to buy these "ladies" can go here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/sexy-amazons-army-miniforge--2...

I ddon't really think "the most Sexy Pin-Up style Amazons Army" will ever get funded, but who knows and I respect them for their efforts, the concept is just a bit (no, a lot) too far from good taste for me.

All the best,
Kasper

Orc Boar Rider General - sans boar...

Hello all,
One of the miniatures languishing in the big box of unpainted lead I recently found, was a rather brutal looking orc. I didn't plan on painting him but he sort of demanded my attention and snuck into the painting queue and this was the result:

Orc, Warhammer, OOP, Kev adams, Boar rider, General, Citadel, 1988, 0505, Games Workshop

I didn't know what type of orc he was, but witht he help of some friendly Oldhammerers over on Oldhammer Forum, I've found out that he is actually a Boar Rider 0505, and a General no less. That explains his aggresive looks.
He was designed by Kev Adams sometime before 1988 where he appears in the Citadel Catalogue (http://www.solegends.com/citcat1988/0505orcs-01.htm). Later he reappears as a more non-descript "Orc with Sword 3" (http://www.solegends.com/citcat19912/c20174gruntassnortas-00.htm). In both cases there is no name supplied.

Orc, Warhammer, OOP, Kev adams, Boar rider, General, Citadel, 1988, 0505, Games Workshop

Must admit that although he should have had a boar between them legs (sounds wrong) he turned out all right - I've given him a purplish colouring in order to make him fit with the Slaaneshi warband I've got planned.

Orc, Warhammer, OOP, Kev adams, Boar rider, General, Citadel, 1988, 0505, Games Workshop

The sculpt is in some places great (the shoulder pad and face are wicked) and a bit lacking in others (no details on the heft of the sword), but all in all he was great fun to paint and will be the leader of any future greenskins who decide to see what all the fuss with Slaanesh is about.

Orc, Warhammer, OOP, Kev adams, Boar rider, General, Citadel, 1988, 0505, Games Workshop

Thanks for looking! So anyone got any fancy ideas for what I should name this boar-lacking General?

All the best,
Kasper

Melty, the Nurgle Troll - TSR 1983 Troll B 5305

Hello all,
Finally finished the Nurgle Troll. Bought as a "Mud Golem", it turned out to be an old (1983) TSR sculpt of a Troll (Nicknamed B 5305). It is a rough sculpt - few details except from the face and the few that are there, are all very melted. Thus, with all the boils, wounds and what I itnerpreted to be molted skin, I've decided that this is none other than Melty, the Nurgle Troll:

TSr, Troll, 1983, 5305, Nurgle, Troll, painted

The face is brutal and I do love the un-dressed nature of this troll - doesn't seem likely that he would put on a pair of trousers before having his picture taken.

TSr, Troll, 1983, 5305, Nurgle, Troll, painted

Might just be the largest nose I've ever seen on a mini :-). I guess he has been eternally cursed/blessed by the fickle Chaos Gods to pick up every last pit of his body odour...

TSr, Troll, 1983, 5305, Nurgle, Troll, painted

The sculptor seems to have gone for some melted skin - I took this as recently flayed skin and applied some tamiya blood tot he wounds.

TSr, Troll, 1983, 5305, Nurgle, Troll, painted

While the mini is a rather crude sculpt, this also meant it was a quick and fun paintjob - and now we have a dangerous, smelly, troll rampaging around our house :-).

Arkward, the Slaaneshi Minotaur - MM42 Minotaur C (1990)

Hello all,
I managed to paint another miniature!
This time it was another of my re-discovered old lead from some 25 years ago. I must say I really enjoy re-painting these minis - I get the funniest flashbacks to the younger me who painted these (badly) so many years ago.

The backstory for this chap is that, as is evident from pictures, he is quite vertically challenged. The bully from his childhood, the mighty Doomroar, always picked on Arkward. This led the poor minotaur to seek ways of gaining a few inches. One night, Slaanesh answered the roars of the bull and gave him a fine set of lenghty horns, colour coded, of course. Arkward's newfound pride was met with ridicule by the other minotaurs, Doomroar even dragged him to the herdstone by the horns and chained him there, to be laughed at and insulted for sixteen days. Once this period was over, Arkward was thrown out of the herd and had to seek out the god who had 'blessed' him. He was promised a true size increasing drugs in return for yet undisclosed services to the young god. Since then Arkward has waited, somewhat patiently and slightly confused, for instructions as to how he can serve and when he will be more like his hero, the bully Doomroar.

Minotaur, Games, Workshop, Marauder, Miniatures, 1990, Aly, Trish, Morrison, Monster, MM42

This is a MM42 Marauder Miniatures Minotaur C. Released back in 1990, and sculpted by Aly and Trish Morrison (I think?).

The initial release was done in White Dwarf and by this, sorta pathetic, drawing as was the sutom back then for Maurauder Miniatures.

Source: http://www.solegends.com/marauder/mm42minotaurs.htm

Minotaur, Games, Workshop, Marauder, Miniatures, 1990, Aly, Trish, Morrison, Monster, MM42

It is a fun little sculpt - a bit potbellied and with absolutely no viciousness about it. Looks more like a docile cow who happened to find an axe and is now wondering what to do with it :-).

Minotaur, Games, Workshop, Marauder, Miniatures, 1990, Aly, Trish, Morrison, Monster, MM42

But a fun paint-job nonetheless and I tried to give it a few subtle (and not so subtle) signs that it has chosen, or been chosen, for a life serving the Chaos God, Slaanesh. I still have to figure out what would make a minotaur choose Slaanesh, but I figure inspiration will strike me sometime soon :-).

Minotaur, Games, Workshop, Marauder, Miniatures, 1990, Aly, Trish, Morrison, Monster, MM42

I'm still testing the use of these backgrounds (found scattered across the internet), but I like them so far. Still need to figure out how to overlap them.

Anyways, thanks for stopping by and all the best,

Blood Bowl Daemonettes: Gristlewhip joins The Fifty Shades of Purple (X)

Hello all,
As you may remember I've collected and painted one each of the old daemonettes made by games Workshop back when they still did the best stuff on the scene. Now, Gristlewhip alone had escaped my clutches (read my torment here :-)), but in the end she was caught and dragged into service.
So, with great pleasure I can present mrs. Gristlewhip, and with her a complete team:

Gristlewhip, daemonette, games workshop, blood bowl, deamon, demon, painted

Not my favourite of the daemons, but among the better of the sculpts - really like the stocking and her face. The entire team will be up as soon as I receive the new photo studio and give it a test run.

Daemonology 101: A Brief History of the Daemonettes of Slaanesh

$

Hello all,
Alluring and sensual - deadly and depraved. Slaanesh's most numerous daemons, the Daemonettes, have always been a favourite of mine, ever since I read about them in Slaves to Darkness so 25 years ago.
According to their fluff they are alluring, nay sexy, enough to make men (and women, Slaanesh favours no sex) stop in their tracks and smile in pleasure as the demon decapitate them with their crab claws. So while they should perhaps look something like this:

Daemons, Demon, Daemonette, Art, Alluring, sexual, Games Workshop, Diaz, Perry, history of, different versions,

Games Workshop choose something a bit more safe for work. The first daemonettes were these beauties:

Link of these ladies from the Rogue Trader era (almost) is from the always helpful Stuff of Legends (http://www.solegends.com/citcat19912/c20254rcdaemonettes-01.htm).
They were designed by Jes Goodwin and Michael Perry (always wondered who did what) back in 1988 and realeased in 1989. They are variables on the same couple of bodies, with individual faces that range from the entirely alien to almost attractive female visages.
I must say I like them, and have enjoyed collecting and painting each one (they can be seen here), even though I would have liked for them to be a bit more 'alluring' and a bit less 'scary' :-).
One of the things that makes the old adverts fun is the names they gave each miniature - in the case of the daemonettes these were the following, colourful names: Lewdfang, Sinwhip, Lipspittle, Lewdbeast, Lustspite, Limbsuck, Fiendthrob, Warptongue, Suckflesh, Gristlewhip, Fleshthrob, Heartvex.
Apart from these twelve daemonettes there was a thirteenth released. She is, surprisingly, neither more rare nor more expensive on ebay these days, but for some reason she was not on the advert and hence has received no suitable name and is called merely the "13th daemonette":

Daemons, Demon, Daemonette, Art, Alluring, sexual, Games Workshop, Diaz, Perry, history of, different versions,
(http://www.sodemons.com/dhurst/daemonettes/)
There is also a Daemonette featured on the poster (upper right corner) for theWarhammer Fantasy Roleplay scenaro "Death on the Reik" (which is brilliant, played it many years ago and really enjoyed it):

Daemons, Demon, Daemonette, Art, Alluring, sexual, Games Workshop, Diaz, Perry, history of, different versions,

Yet, this merely appears to be Lewdfang having been summoned anew by the Mail Order Trolls.

The fluff from the Realm of Chaos - Slaves to Darkness describes the daemons thusly:
"The Daemonettes are the most numerous of Slaanesh’s daemonic followers, and serve his purposes in a number of ways. They fight as troops on the battlefield, and are occasionally granted as companions to mortal followers of Slaanesh. Like Slaanesh, the Daemonettes are beautiful, but their beauty is perverse and unnatural, and causes loathing rather than admiration. They often ride into battle on Mounts of Slaanesh.

They stand nearly as tall as a man, and are white skinned with deep green saucer like eyes. Their figures and faces are something like those of Human women, but they have only one breast. They often decorate their bodies and their long flowing white hair with a variety of bizarre designs, painted or tattooed onto their skins in the pastel shades of Slaanesh. Slaanesh’s symbol, endlessly repeated, is the most popular motif. One of their arms ends in a chitinous claw, and they have two-toed, clawed feet."

A few years later came a new version of the daemonettes by Games Workshop. This time they were even less alluring and much more khornate. I've nicknamed them the "ugly clawbitches" and they date from 1994. They were sculpted by Colin Dixon and Aly Morrison and, to me at least, look ridiculous with their huge claws:

Daemons, Demon, Daemonette, Art, Alluring, sexual, Games Workshop, Diaz, Perry, history of, different versions,

Eight years later, Games Workshop realised their error and had Juan Diaz design a new line of Daemonettes This third version are beautiful and some of the best sculpts Diaz ever made and the demons are beautiful and sensual:

Daemons, Demon, Daemonette, Art, Alluring, sexual, Games Workshop, Diaz, Perry, history of, different versions,

They look like alluring daemons again and like they are dancing. They can be found often on Ebay but are really, really expensive. And there are a ton of fakes out there, cheap recasts from China and elsewhere, so be careful when buying these beauties.

The fourth incarnation - although I don't see how anyone can top either the old-school wonder of the first version or the beautiful, sleek forms created by Diaz - were released in 2008:

Daemons, Demon, Daemonette, Art, Alluring, sexual, Games Workshop, Diaz, Perry, history of, different versions,

They have retained the sleekness of the Diaz sculpts, but have become a bit more evil than alluring. Not bad, but only third on my list of the daemonette sculpts. Along witht hem came some new fluff:
"Daemonettes are Slaanesh's Lesser Daemons and the most numerous of all his servants. Possessed of the hypnotic glamour for which all Daemons of Slaanesh are abhorred, they are vicious, merciless fighters who attack with astounding speed and grace."

Anyways, I guess GW will release a new version within the next few years and I do hope they retain the sleekness, graceful and alluring look.

Hope you enjoyed reading this short history on my favourite daemons - if I've left anything out I would love to know about it!

All the best,

Kasper

Ebay addiction: Old Target, I-Kore and Celtos miniatures

Hello all,
Why on earth did I do that?!? Why did I buy more lead on ebay, even though I have more than enough for me, my sons and their sons to paint?
Oh well, there were two reasons; firstly it was so cheap! and secondly, I needed them - well I needed one of the minis and I could use the rest :-).

It was a large batch which included the following four warriors:

Target, Miniatures, Warriors, ebay

The two on the left will become the leaders of my Nurgle warband, while the two on the right will serve in my Slaaneshi warband.
The base on the first three says "Target" - a miniature company I'm completely unfamiliar with so with anyone has a link to painted examples or got a history lesson prepared I would love the info! The last guy's tab is clotted with superglue but it may say "Eldorado"? Anyone?
Three of the chaps miss their hands but this matters not - the slaaneshi will receive a blessing by their god in the form of daemonette claws and the nurgle warrior may get a tentacle.

Next up is this fine Shaman:

Lugh, Long Arm, Celtos, Ebay

Apparently he is "Lugh the Long Arm" - although it looks like both his arms are the same length, luckily :-). Celtos miniature and one I look forward to painting.

The last one in this post is this pretty cat:

Amanthas, the Huntress, Sabretooth, Ebay, Miniature, Smilodon, Celtos

It is the Sabretooth from the Celtos set "Amanthas the Huntress with Sabretooth". A beauty and the reason I bought the lot in the first place. I've got big plans for this cat and there will be browny points to anyone who can guess what they are :-).

Amanthas, the Huntress, Sabretooth, Ebay, Miniature, Smilodon, Celtos

It is a beautiful cat and one of those miniatures you just cannot wait to paint :-).

More ebay-stuff next time!

New Cheap Photo Studio - Foldio review, comparison shots and Arkward returns!

$

Hello all,
Like most of you miniature-loving, hobbiest out there I've struggled long and hard with getting pictures that actually look like the miniature. Light, colours etc is just such a hassle.
I've tried several set-ups, lamps etc but nothing has really done the job. Thus when I saw a kickstarter for a photo studio set-up that looked great and was not that expensive I jumped at the chance. The kickstarter was for a set-up named Foldio - becuase it folds, get it? :-). It is lit up by a strip of LED lights and was fairly cheap.
Well, it was delivered this morning and I've been tampering with it ever since. And to be honest I'm satisfied, but only just.
The first thing I should show you is a comparison shot - this is Arkward, everyones favourite minotaur.

Minotaur, Games, Workshop, Marauder, Miniatures, 1990, Aly, Trish, Morrison, Monster, MM42, Foldio, Comparison, review, verdict
Arkward - before and after
On the left is a before shot - overexposed and yellowish due to the lamps used. On the right is the best I could tweak the Foldio to produce. If you expand the picture you can see that the colours are much more like they are in the real world (you can also see his nose has been chipped, Argh!!). Yet it is still a bit too dark (even after I've photo-shopped it).
All in all I do think that while the picture on the left is better to get ones attention due to the bright colours, the Foldio-shot is the best of the two as it is much closer to reality and actually shows highlights, blends etc.

So this is the tweaked version. What does that mean? Well the Foldio looks like this:

Minotaur, Games, Workshop, Marauder, Miniatures, 1990, Aly, Trish, Morrison, Monster, MM42, Foldio, Comparison, review, verdictMinotaur, Games, Workshop, Marauder, Miniatures, 1990, Aly, Trish, Morrison, Monster, MM42, Foldio, Comparison, review, verdict

A sheet of high-quality plastic thingy that folds into a photo-box, or light box, and locks using magnets. The LED strip uses 9 volt battery and thats about it. It feels like ok quality all the way.
But I've found that a single LED strip is simply not enough. It gives dark pictures, even though it reflects well and there are no shadows.
So I tweaked it to look like this:

Minotaur, Games, Workshop, Marauder, Miniatures, 1990, Aly, Trish, Morrison, Monster, MM42, Foldio, Comparison, review, verdict
Ignore the miniature - it is a secret!

I've raised up the bottom to get more light from the top strip and have added a cheap strip from IKEA I had available. Together these two strips are almost enough. I think if I could find a better strip this setup would be hard to beat, I'll be trawling the Chinese LED shops for some time now :-).

So my verdict on the Foldio? Well it didn't solve all my problems in one delicious swoop, nor will it be the hasslefree experience I had hoped for, instead it will be something that needs setting up and adjusting, but not anymore than any other setup I've tried. The quality is good, but the LED are insufficient. I'll give it a 7 out of 10 - I'll use it for all photoes in the future, but I'll need to tweak it even further to be satisfied. But for 20$ I'm pretty satisfied and think it will stop me screaming at my camera and staring in disbelief at the pictures I have available to upload :-).

So, I guess this leaves just the new pictures of Arkward, the slightly confused Minotaur (read his history here) taken using the above setup - I would really appreciate your opinion as to whether this is better or worse than the previous efforts (can be seen here):

Orc General on Sabretooth Tiger - Hear Me Roar!

Hello all,

You probably remember the old "Orc Boar Rider General" from 1988 that I recently painted (if not, you can read about him here). Now I really enjoyed painting him and giving him a brief biography describing how a vicious orc came to be in the service of Slaanesh.

When I went to the Oldhammer forum and posted images of him there, I was told that the orc was actually a "boar rider" - and what is a boar rider without a boar? A vicious, evil, angry orc. So to bring a bit of "happiness" to the life of our orc I've been searching for a suitable mount ever since. Well, I found one on Ebay the other day. And just look how the two of them suit each other:

Orc, Warhammer, OOP, Kev adams, Boar rider, General, Citadel, 1988, 0505, Games Workshop, Celtos, Sabretooth, Amanthas

Orc, Warhammer, OOP, Kev adams, Boar rider, General, Citadel, 1988, 0505, Games Workshop, Celtos, Sabretooth, Amanthas

Never has a better mount been made available to an orc!

Orc, Warhammer, OOP, Kev adams, Boar rider, General, Citadel, 1988, 0505, Games Workshop, Celtos, Sabretooth, Amanthas

The two were brought together in a chance meeting in the woods. Our orc's first thoughts were along the lines of how much wargear he could buy with the huge teeth on the Sabretooth. But the beasts vicious growlings made him pause and a slow sense of respect - something entirely new for the orc - grew. The two are now inseparable, hunting the wilderness killing and maiming everything they find, be it animals or sentient beings. Never before has the Orc been so close to happiness and his confusion has been momentarily forgotten. But Slaanesh is a fickle being and grows tired of the pleasure gained through the orc's rampaging so life will probably bring new challenges for the warlord, and soon.

Please ignore the yellow-tack - still deciding on whether the orc need a saddle...
The beast is a Sabretooth from a set produced by Celtos called "Amanthas the Huntress with Sabretooth". I unfortunately did not get Amathas, but the big cat was just perfect for the orc so I was glad to get for less than a pound.
Here is  a few pictures of the Sabretooth before it met our orc:

Considering how much fun I've had testing out the new Foldio photo-setup-studio-gizmo, I figures I would repost about Melty, the Nurgle Troll, with some brand new pictures.

Ebay Addiction: More Old Minitatures Citadel / Runequest (that-I-did-not-really-need-but-still-had-to-get)

Hello all,
Oh, that Ebay is an evil port. You go there just to look and suddenly you have even more unpainted lead. But these old beauties were so cheap...
So what did I get? This lot:

Runequest, old, oop, Newtling, Dragonewt

A pair of sweet old"Runequest Box 5: Dragonewts" - Runequest miniatures from ca. 1982

Newtling with Sling and Crested Dragonewt with Javelin- these guys are tiny!

Citadel, c09, Dark Elf, High Priest, Solid Base, c-0915, 1984

This chap I've never seen before. Listed as a "Citadel 1980s C09 Dark Elf / Elves - Sorcerer / High Priest (A)". His correct, much shorter name, is C-0915 High Priest of the old solid base Dark Elves from ca. 1984. Quite an old chap. Will make an excellent sorcerer for my Slaaneshi warband :-).

Runequest, old, miniature, oop, Scorpion, Man, converted

These two weird minis I bought because I thought they were variants of the old "Runequest Box 4: Beast Men - Scorpion Man with Club". They were not and are two pretty crappy conversions - the club is gone, a shield has been added and each have received a new beastman head. I've been working on them with green stuff to hide the old conversion and have added a little something special to them to make them more Slaaneshi - I think they might turn out just fine :-).

Runequest, old, miniature, oop, Scorpion, Man, converted

Watch the stinger, please!
Stay tuned for the painted versions - the newtlings and scorpion men are almost done already :-).

Ebay Addiction: Goblin Raiding Party (I-really-shouldn't-buy-more-lead...)

Hello all,
Apparently I bought some more minis on Ebay. This is the second to last batch and then I've got to stay away from that evil site. It seems every time I pop in, somehow someone buys minis and sends the bill to me. Luckily I also get the minis, but still.
But how am one to not buy pretty old minis like these? And so cheap?
This time the damage was limited to a few adorable Goblins:

These mighty (?) goblins are members of the old Citadel "Speciality Set 4 - Goblin Raiding Party". They answer to the brilliant names of Torg Dwarfsmasher (Goblin Champion), Snurd Hideflayer (Discipline Master, with whip), Urag Legeater (attacking with Warpick), and (my favourite) Gigblad Childsplatter (with Morningstar).

Speciality Set, 4, Goblin Raiding Party, Torg Dwarfsmasher, Snurd Hideflayer, Urag Legeater, Gigblad Childsplatter, citadel, oop

Brilliant names - Childsplatter, not sure that would be allowed today - and brilliant characters.
I must say I find a strange satisfaction painting minis that are some thirty years old and which have never received a proper paint job. And these have so much character that I can't wait to get painting them!

All the best,
Kasper

My son sculpted a mini! And some Heroquest action shots

$

Hello all,
My son is the best.
And I don't just say that because I'm totally biased, no he paints miniatures quite well and having watched him sculpting Slaaneshi claws using blue-tac, I figured I would let him play around with some Miliput. And although this won't win him a Crystal Brush for sculpting, I do think his chaotic, mutated, beastman is a pretty great first attempt:

I guess we should call him Giraffe-man, and I don't think I've ever seen a Broo with that animal as the beastial part, so an unique sculpt :-):

I'm quite proud of him, and he has kindly let me paint the beastman and I'm looking forward to it. He enjoyed the experience and can't wait to try it again - he has also gotten a new-found respect for all those talented sculptors out there = mission accomplished :-).

We also - at the urging of my youngest son (5) - got to play some Heroquest.

Now the youngest enjoys this very much and plays a Barbarian wearing the Helmet and the Shield, making him an invincible killing machine who can do whatever he likes - hence my sons love of the game :-).

My wife's Elf and the oldest sons' Dwarf were less lucky and were killed by the evil magician who I decided could cast a fireball each turn and summon Zombies.

Not entirely fair, but all had a good time :-).

All the best,
Kasper

Torg Dwarfsmasher - Citadel Speciality Set 4 - Goblin Raiding Party

Hello all,
So as mentioned recently, I "accidentally" bought some more lead for the lead mountain. i blame it on the whole "Oldhammer"-influence, but in honesty I just enjoy these old sculpts so much. They are filled to the brim with character and although I have absolutely no use for them they are fun to paint. And they have brilliant names as well. I mean, how can you not paint a goblin named Torg Dwarfsmasher?

So the first goblin painted from the old Citadel Speciality set number 4, the scary Goblin Raiding Party, is the Goblin Champion called Torg Dwarfsmasher:

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, Torg, Dwarfsmasher, oop, old

The raiding party in the original advert can be seen here (image from Stuff of legends), with Torg in the bottom left corner:

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, Torg, Dwarfsmasher, oop, old

Not sure how many dwarfs he could actually smash - a few I guess, if they were drunk - but he does look the business. Armed with a nasty mace, sword, light armour, and a shield he is the champion of the bunch and looks like he could boss his goblinoid kin around.

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, Torg, Dwarfsmasher, oop, old

A fine sculpt, no obvious mistakes and with quite a few details made this a fun paint. It has been a while since I last painted a goblin but I think I found a workable green colour for him.

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, Torg, Dwarfsmasher, oop, old

The only thing about this Raiding Party that I'm not completely sold on are the shields. They are fairly basic, but I figured I would use black/white combo to make them seem more like a unit.

So with Torg, our Orc General, has finally found his first follower with a colourization that he can agree with :-).
Stay tuned for the rest of the goblinoid 'waargh'.

All the best,
Kasper

Urag Legeater - Citadel Speciality Set 4 - Goblin Raiding Party

Hello all,
Next up (the champion can be seen here) from the old Games Workshop / Citadel Goblin Raiding Party set is Urag Legeater. Apparently a 'normal' goblin the only description mr. Legeater gets is that he is "attacking with Warpick":

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, Urag, Legeater, oop, old

A fine miniature - and I've always liked warpicks. A brutal weapon, suitable for armoured opponents as well as unarmed. I do wonder how he came to be called "Legeater" - would be fun if one of the other goblins from the set had a wooden leg...

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, Urag, Legeater, oop, old

As mentioned before, I wanted these to look more or less uniformed and thus the only bit of colour on this guy - the blue tassel - matches his leaders surcoat. Apart from that he primarily green and metal.

The original add pictures wherein Urag can be found in the top row.

All in all not a bad little goblin - and I really enjoyed painting the little guy :-).

Next up is Snurd Hideflayer (Discipline Master, with whip) - another great name but a weirder goblin-sculpt than the others.

Kasper

Hello all,
Another of the quartet from the Citadel Speciality Set 4 (Goblin Raiding Party) painted - this time it is Discipline Master, also known as Snurd Hideflayer. This time the name makes sense as he is armed with a vicious club and a long whip, quite able to flay some flesh.

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, Snurd, Hideflayer,, oop, old

Another fun paintjob, and perhaps the most corpulent goblin I've ever painted (not that I have paitned that many gobbos). He does look the part of a slaver, eating half the slaves' rations.

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, Snurd, Hideflayer,, oop, old

Again, these minis are quick to paint and provide great fun while doing so. I do need to find the last members of the raiding party.

Next up is the last goblin - Gigblad Childsplatter. Not the brightest of the bunch but certainly the best named goblin.

Kasper

Hello all,
The last of my four goblins that I accidentally bought on Ebay. This time it is Gigblad Childsplatter:

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, gigblad, Childsplatter, oop, old

He was the one I fell in love with and the reason I bought these goblins in the first place. His confused look is just perfect (especially as my Slaaneshi warband seem to focus on confused followers of the God) and I couldn't wait to paint him. He is one of those miniatures that just jump in front of the painting queue and demands to get some attention.

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, gigblad, Childsplatter, oop, old

The smallest of the bunch, he is armed with a nasty flail - something that definitely could make a child go splat (sorry).

And with that the Goblin Raiding Party is done - until I find the rest of its members.

Hello all,
So, what is it with these old Citadel miniatures? How can they be so fun to paint, even though the sculpting is not always perfect, nor do they have the fluid poses of many new miniatures? To hazard a guess I think it is a combination of little pressure (as in you didn't just pay 12£ each in a GW store) and the 'realistic' take on the minis - i.e. they do not have piles of giant skulls all over the place nor do they have swords the size of cities.

The sweet goblins from Citadel's Speciality Set 4 (the Goblin Raiding Party) is a great example of this:

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, gigblad, Childsplatter, oop, old, Snurd, Hideflayer, Urag, Legeater, Torg, Dwarfsmasher
Let's go raiding!

Realistic goblins, with weapons of a suitable size and actual armour and equipment. they do look like raiders and they each look like they have a history. Oh, and the fact that they are named also gives them plenty of character.
So, it was with great pleasure that I painted these four gobbos and I'm definitely searching the market for the rest of the raiding party!
Each of the four miniatures are oozing character:

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, gigblad, Childsplatter, oop, old, Snurd, Hideflayer, Urag, Legeater, Torg, Dwarfsmasher

Torg Dwarfsmasher

Gigblad Childsplatter

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, gigblad, Childsplatter, oop, old, Snurd, Hideflayer, Urag, Legeater, Torg, Dwarfsmasher

Snurd Hideflayer

And together they form a very nice - if small - force of goblin raiders, from the time before huge WAAAARghs were the only thin greenskins did.

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, gigblad, Childsplatter, oop, old, Snurd, Hideflayer, Urag, Legeater, Torg, Dwarfsmasher
Dem' be Pro'er Gobbo Shieldz!

Anyways, they will be joining the Slaaneshi warband, as confused as to why they are there as their Orc Champion.

All the best,
Kasper

Old Runequest Miniatures: Dragonnewts

Hello all,
Two miniatures that snuck into an ebay purchase have finally been painted. I had no idea what these two things were (nor how tiny they are) but figured they would be fun to paint and could be used as skinks or something similar.

Crested, Dragonewt, Javelin, Newtling, Sling, Runequest, oop, miniatures, lizardmen, skinks, dragonnewts
Dangerous Dragonnewts!

After some research it turns out they are both old Runequest Miniatures. They were sold in "Box 5" as a "Crested Dragonewt with Javelin" and a "Newtling with Sling".

(Image from http://www.solegends.com/citrq/citrqb5v1dragonnewts/index.htm)

After having seen the contents of this box, I want - no, need! - the other newts. They would make very nice lizard-beatmen!

Close ups of the painted newts:

I have no idea whether these were dangerous, but considering their size, I don't think that is likely :-). I did find a very nice writeup of the life of a Newt here: http://level2-wardy-la.blogspot.dk/2011/12/runequest-dragonewts.html. But whether this is 'official' Runequest lore or not, I'm not entirely certain.

Crested, Dragonewt, Javelin, Newtling, Sling, Runequest, oop, miniatures, lizardmen, skinks, dragonnewts
Newtling with Sling
I really like how individualised these two are, and how the armour and weapons are kept on a realistic scale.
They were both fun to paint, although quite a few details were missing or destroyed by previous owners - e.g. half the face of the sling-newt was more or less without any details.

Crested, Dragonewt, Javelin, Newtling, Sling, Runequest, oop, miniatures, lizardmen, skinks, dragonnewts

I went with a slightly purplish colour scheme to make them usable for my Slaaneshi warband, although it may be difficult to conjure up a plausible reason for two skinks entering the service of the confused orc champion, or the Slaaneshi pleasure God...

Crested, Dragonewt, Javelin, Newtling, Sling, Runequest, oop, miniatures, lizardmen, skinks, dragonnewts
They do look sneaky, don't they?
Next up will be a group photo of the Orc, Goblins, and these two - the beginnings of a mighty force...

All the best,
Kasper

Bum Fuzzle and his Confusables - Greenskin Slaaneshi Warband

Hello all,
Time to give an update on the greener parts of the Slaaneshi warband I've been painting over the last month.
If for no other reason, then because they look like a happy familyu in this group photo:

Citadel, Games Workshop, Speciality set, Goblin, raiding, party, gigblad, Childsplatter, oop, old, Snurd, Hideflayer, Urag, Legeater, Torg, Dwarfsmasher, Orc, Warhammer, OOP, Kev adams, Boar rider, General, Citadel, 1988, 0505, Games Workshop, Celtos, Sabretooth, Amanthas

So the leader is the mighty orc champion Bum Fuzzle (more pictures of him here), a powerful Orc who for some reason has found himself in the service of Slaanesh. He has yet to fully graspthe differentiated nature of the Chaos gods but was told that a service to them would provide amble opportunity for slaughter.
He is still waiting for the promised experience of a throne of skulls and rivers of blood and wanders around somewhat confused about why he needs to don purple armour but due to his fickle memory he keeps forgetting to seek employment elsewhere. Oh, and for a long time he also wished he had a boar to ride into battle on - Slaanesh, amused by the confused orc's thought, decided to bless him with a mighty steed:

The beast and orc were brought together in a chance meeting in the woods. Fuzzle's first thoughts were along the lines of how much wargear he could buy with the huge teeth on the Sabretooth. But the beast's vicious growlings made him pause and a slow sense of respect - something entirely new for the orc - grew. The two are now inseparable, hunting the wilderness killing and maiming everything they find, be it animals or sentient beings. Never before has the Orc been so close to happiness and his confusion has been momentarily forgotten. But Slaanesh is a fickle being and grows tired of the pleasure gained through the orc's rampagings  so life will probably bring new challenges for the warlord, and soon.

Bum Fuzzle's life has recently been complicated (and even more confused) by two new groups of followers. The first is the remnants of a goblin raiding party (more pictures of them here). The four goblins (Torg Dwarfsmasher, Snurd Hideflayer, Urag Legeater, and Gigblad Childsplatter) are what is left of a waargh that went entirely wrong.
Their shaman got confused and led his chieftain to believe that they should head north into the chaos wastes instead of the lush, fat lands of the empire.
One by one they were killed, maimed, and eaten by the inhabitants of the north (who were all quite happy to have small, bite-sized beings enter their domain) until the four unhappy goblins decided to leg it, and leg it fast. They kept running until they found an orc and have since refused to leave him out of sight, clinging to him for leadership and guidance in (what they have learnt) is a very, very scary world. Unfortunately for Bum Fuzzle that orc is him and he has since their arrival been utterly confused as to why they continue to shadow his every step and why he has not yet killed them - yet the voices in the back of his mind insists that he should let them live for now.

The other followers are two more goblins. At least that is the conclusion Bum Fuzzle's addled brain has reached. Short, weak, and green equals goblins. And although the 'real' goblins keep jabbering something else, Fuzzle has lumped the two groups of smaller greenskins together.
Actually the two are young skinks. The last two to crawl out of the spawning pond, the rest of the lizardmen had left by the time the two exited the waters. Left on their own, the two wandered aimlessly, confused about everything. Through some fluke - or the workings of Slaanesh - they went through one of the Lizardmens magical vortexes andstumbled upon Bum Fuzzle. As two addled chickens they have decided that he is their mother and have since followed him, scrabbling with the goblins for his attention.

This little warband thus so far consists of a brute of an orc on a tiger the size of a horse, continously trailed by a group of lesser green beings consistently arguing amongst themselves and adding to Bum Fuzzle's continous state of confusion.

If there ever was proof of Slaanesh's perverted senses this warband is surely it!

Oh well, better get back to painting some more followers to make dear mr. Fuzzle's life ever more confusing :-).

All the best,
Kasper
